A few years ago, I read a most beautiful book titled "Seven Days in Utopia - Golf's sacred journey" written by David L. Cook, PhD. The book is available on www.linksofutopia.com or from major online retailers. To me, it was the beginning of an amazing journey out of a mommy-burnout and from the words of David L. Cook I have created a mission statement for moms. It's mostly meant for my own remembrance and benefit, but I would like to post it here so that you can be encouraged and benefit from it also. I hope you like it and feel free to leave me a comment below. Here it is:
There is no specific model in motherhood, no pat answers either. Each mom must develop a blueprint for her own family and her own style of mothering them. She must have such a conviction for the manner in which it is done, that there are no cracks in her armour when facing the toughest foe on her journey. The toughest challenge we will face is not necessarily life itself, or even the way other mother's "score" or take care of their children. Our toughest foe will be the casual comment offered up by a fellow mother or teacher about how you should be doing it. I cannot ask you how you are doing as a mom (blogging is unfortunately a one way conversation), but I encourage you to find a solid stance and conviction that YOU ARE A GOOD MOM in your own way. If you don't have such a stance or conviction yet, I would love to recommend that you take a little bit of quiet time each day and start writing down your insecurities and thoughts. I deeply believe that in writing our thoughts, unseen wisdom rises to the occasion. I see that on a daily basis in my own life. So, mom, I am not here to try and improve your mothering skills, I wouldn't be qualified to even try. My purpose is to help you or encourage you to find your "game", your very own mothering style. Because when you find it, it will also improve the way that you cope with whatever is coming your way today. Don't forget...you are the most important "player" in your children's life, so you owe it to them to take care of yourself!
So, that's it. That's my mission statement for moms and I truly wish you a BLESSED DAY!
HAPPY MOTHERING MOM, HANG IN THERE TODAY!
To rest and ponder is not a crime! 😊 (Photo is my own) |
